Aug 03, 2013 Abel Longoria Vanagon 1
Libby is currently on a auto transport truck making her way from Phoenix, AZ where I bought her a week ago or so and is headed home to Houston. It was a little weird since I bought Libby with a Cashier’s Check that the seller’s bank required a 10 day hold on it before the bank would clear the money to the seller. So I had to wait.. 10 working days for the check to clear before I could even schedule a transport to pick up my newly acquired van. This was TOUGH to wait.
So while I was waiting on my Cashier’s Check to officially clear I may or may not have went a bit crazy on the GoWesty.com website. GoWesty is a huge Vanagon suppiler of parts and aftermarket upgrades that’s based in California. It’s a good thing I’m not within driving distance of this place or else I’d probably have a ton more sitting on my living room floor waiting for Libby. Ha!
Since I had been looking at getting a Vanagon for several months I kind of already new what I wanted to do to it and add to it so I began ordering my parts. The parts in the photo above include (from L to R):
Front Skid Plate
Rear Swing Arm Tray
.5″ Spring Spacers (To level out the Rear End)
1.5″ Lift Springs Kit
Speedometer with a 7% Increase for Larger Tires
Rear Swing Arm Assembly for the Rear Tire Mount
Rear Swing Arm Assembly for the Rear Swing Arm Tray
Spare Tire Mount
HiLift Jack Hitch Mount
Front Hitch Mount
Tire Mount for Rear Swing Arm Assembly
South African Front Grill
HiLift Jack
Tow Shackle
16×7.5″ GoWesty Wheel for My Spare
HiLift Jack Plastic Base
Box of Curtain Clips
City Water Hookup Box
Shore Power Hookup Box
Water Fill Hookup Box
H4 Headlight Bulbs
South African Front Grill Wiring Kit and VW Emblem
Hella Lamps for the South African Grill
Complete Interior Curtain Set
Yea so I may have gone a bit overboard but I can say that I am sure GoWesty.com appreciates my business. Hehe.
One of the things I liked about the Vanagon is that it already had the GoWesty 16″ tire and wheel upgrade. Only thing that I didn’t like is that it had the 215/60/16 street tires so I definitely plan to upgrade those to the 215/70/16 BFG All Terrain tires once I get the van here.
Since I planned to add the rear spare tire mount I needed to order a 5th GoWesty wheel since the Vanagon only came with a generic steel wheel and scrub tire spare. I must say that for a $140 wheel they were VERY well packaged and protected which made it arrive in mint condition.
It’s also a very cool touch to have the VW logo in the center cap tweaked in order to represent the GW of GoWesty. Most will not notice it right off hand but as soon as I opened it it caught my attention. Clever.
I can’t wait to get the Van here so I can start adding on these welcome home gifts a little at a time. It seems I have my work cut out for me!
