Texas isn’t necessarily known as a hot bed for Vanagon traffic like the West Coast is. I myself have seen only 3 Vanagons on the roads here in Texas in the past 18 months. Crazy I know.
I’ve been to a lot of VW shows and campouts and have gotten in contact with other Vanagon owners but there was no way to stay in easy contact with them. Some are on Facebook, others aren’t etc. There’s no one place we can all stay in touch with other so I thought it would be nice to form a group solely for Vanagon owners. This way we can remain in contact with each other, organize meetups and campouts.
That’s where TexasVanagons.com comes in. This will be a hub for all of us Texas based Vanagon owners to keep in touch with each other. We won’t be adding a forum, we will have a Facebook Group for those members on Facebook to utilize and we’ll be utilizing some sort of E-Mail based ListServ option. Yes I know ListServ’s are considered a relic but then again so are the Vanagons we drive! Consider this a “period correct” method of communication. Hehe.
The ListServ will be an easy way for all members to keep in touch with one another, post items for sale, plan meetups and campouts etc. This ListServ email group won’t have 1,000 people on it so the number of emails and traffic should be relatively light and won’t be a burden.
I’ll also keep track of an overall listing of Texas area events since I see many posted on various places such as the web, Facebook and TheSamba. Sometimes these events are only posted on one medium while not getting exposed to people on other sites. I plan to keep an updated Events List with all of the pertinent information and associated links so it’s easy to navigate.
The site will be evolving in the weeks to come as we get things finalized.
Thanks for stopping by!
