While Syncrofest 5 I met a fellow Vanagon owner named Jack Reese of Reese Engineering and he showed me a new product he is bringing to market, Aluminum Bumper Washers for Gowesty front steel bumpers. I had never heard of such a thing so I was all ears.
A little background info, I have a set of Gowesty Bumpers and they come with plastic hex head caps that cover the mounting bolts. So you mount the bumper with hex head bolts, then place these caps over the bolt head in order to finish off the look. I’ve never really thought twice about these caps as I thought it was a neat, simple solution.
Then I saw Jack’s aluminum bumper washers and I had to have a set. These heavy duty high quality washers are machined from solid billet aluminum 6061 and hard anodized black which makes for a great complimentary piece for my bumper. The washers come complete with a socket head cap screw (which requires a 6mm hex key wrench not included) and comes with pre-applied thread lock in order to keep your bumper nice and secure.
Overall I am very impressed with the craftsmanship and attention to detail that Jack has put into this product. Our community is such a small niche market we don’t see too many people willing to try to develop a product for us Vanagon owners. Seeing new products come to market no matter what they are is always good to see. I for one love to see what others can come up with!
These Aluminum Bumper Washers won’t give you more horsepower or increase your fuel efficiency but they are cool to look at and have been getting the attention of other Vanagon owners I meet. Installation was simple, remove an existing mounting bolt, then replace with this cap screw and washer then repeat for the other side. Installation took less than 5 minutes total. Easy.
You can purchase a pair of these Aluminum Bumper Washers HERE ON EBAY.
I like it. Thanks for posting Abel. I will purchase a set!
